The mission of Meta United is to provide an interactive structure through which citizens are informed, express their views, and take action in support of nonpartisan, positive public policies that build community, honor the dignity of all people and promote forgiveness and love. The motto of Meta United is "Creating Unity in Communities."
The mission grew out of the experience of the founder and Chair of the Board, Sylvia Clute, in her role as a trial attorney for 28 years. As a litigator, she came to realize the "eye for an eye," or vengeance model, upon which our legal system was built, is an undesirable way to resolve disputes. In addition to the legal system, the vengeance model girds many of our public policies. After years of consideration and research as to how we might better resolve conflict and achieve peace at home and abroad, Clute has written the novel Destiny Unveiled, in which she sets out a model of law and government built on the premise that the principle "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a healing, restorative model that serves us better.

Membership in Meta United is open to any person who supports the mission and objectives of the organization. Membership is available by application and upon payment of dues. (Upon application, dues may be waived based on hardship.) Membership support of the organization may also consist of contributions of action, resources and money.

Meta United will work to influence legislation pursuant to the Lobbying Policy adopted by the Board. Our purpose in doing so will be to support legislation that reflects a restorative approach and oppose legislation that fosters the vengeance model. As the organization is nonpartisan, it will not support any political candidate or political party.
It is the objective of Meta United to provide an organizational structure to connect people who share our vision of "positive public policy," to enable them to act in concert, and to give this view a legitimate voice in public policy discourse. |
